Enamel factories will choose different enameling methods according to the shape of the casting and the enameling equipment. The enameling methods can be divided into dry enameling and wet enameling, and the enamel frits used are also different.

Wet cast iron enamel

If it is a lighter and smaller enamel workpiece, a wet process will be used, such as enamel pots and enamel oven racks. In order to prevent the enamel workpiece from being deformed due to high temperature during the sintering step, the firing temperature is low, about 760 ° C ~ 790 ° C, and the firing time is determined according to the weight of the enamel workpiece, about 5 to 15 minutes.

 

Wet cast iron enamel can be adjusted to any color, the color and appearance of the finished enamel will be better than ordinary enamel, and the mechanical strength will be stronger. If lead is contained in the composition or ingredients of enamel frit, it cannot be used as enamel products in contact with food because of its toxicity. Wet cast iron enamels can be primed first or topped directly.

At present, "white base enamel" is widely used. Quartz, feldspar and borax are mixed uniformly and melted to a semi-molten state. They are then ground into fine powder.

dry cast iron enamel

Dry cast iron enamel is mainly used for large enamel workpieces, such as sanitary ware (cast iron bathtub), brackets, rulers, barber chairs, etc. The composition of enamel frit is much more complicated than that of steel plate enamel frit, including a variety of fluxes, and the opalescent agent must be melted directly in the frit. All dry cast iron enamels require an enamel primer to protect the iron embryo from oxidation and rust when heated. The ground coat can dissolve iron oxide and impurities on the surface of the casting, and can also be used as an insulating layer to prevent the components in the cover coat from being reduced by iron. The firing temperature of the dry ground coat should not exceed 920℃. If the temperature is too high, it will cause pinholes, bubbles and pores.
