When enamel manufacturers produce daily enamel, they often also consider color and appearance. In addition to the common enamel pigments such as cadmium red, cadmium yellow, and cobalt blue, pink pigment is also one of the most used colors.
The pink pigment is mostly chromium tin red, and the main components are Cr2O3, CaO, SnO2 and SiO2. In addition to the main components, a small amount of mineralizer is often added, such as boric acid or borax in the batch.
There are two opinions on the color development mechanism of pink pigment: one is that Cr2O3 fine particles are dispersed on SnO2 colloidal particles, and its color depends on the ratio of Cr2O3 to SnO2, and the color is from deep purple to light purple; the other believes that The pink pigment is due to the dissolution of chromium ions in the stannite (CaO•SnO2•SiO2) crystal. X-ray diffraction analysis proves that the general pink pigment has this crystal structure. In the general pink pigment formula, increasing the content of Cr2O3 will make the color of the pigment purple, and increasing the content of CaO will deepen the red color of the pigment, and increasing the content of SiO2 is beneficial to the color. The Cr2O3 in the pigment formula is better to be introduced with potassium dichromate than directly with chromium oxide. In the composition without CaO but with Cr2O3, SnO2 and more B2O3 and Na20, the pigment is purple or lilac purple. In the composition of pigments, the proper introduction of a small amount of lead oxide is beneficial to the coloration, and the introduction of magnesium oxide will change the color tone and be light pink.
