The wet cast iron enamel process is mostly used for light-weight enamelled workpieces, such as enameled frying pans or enameled hob. In order to avoid the deformation of the object at high temperature, the firing temperature is usually low, about 760~790℃, and the firing time depends on the weight of the casting, usually about 5~15 minutes.

Wet cast iron enamel can be adjusted to any color, and the finished product has better color appearance and stronger mechanical strength than general enamel. Enamel enamels containing lead in the composition, not suitable for food contact enamels.

Wet cast iron enamel can be enamel ground coat first, or enamel cover can be applied directly. However, this enamel ground coat does not require cobalt oxide or other oxidative pigments, and mostly uses a less reflective cover coat as the ground coat. The addition of zirconia to the ground coat can significantly increase its opalescence and reflectivity (called white ground coat).

Based on their composition and chemical composition, wet cast iron enamels can be divided into lead-free and low-lead enamels. The composition of lead-free enamel is very similar to that of steel plate enamel, and its fluidity can be increased by adding a small amount of barium carbonate and zinc oxide. Usually low lead enamels have antimony compounds added to the frit as an opalescent agent. If it has a high lead content, the color will turn cream or yellow. The total amount of feldspar, borax, and quartz contained in low-lead enamels accounts for about half of all components. The amount of sodium-alkali ash is very small, and Chile saltpeter is very helpful for the opalescence of antimony compounds. The content of lead oxide ranges from 9% to 17%, with an average of about 14%. Most low-lead enamels add a certain amount of barium carbonate as a substitute for lead oxide, and zinc oxide, chalk, and boron oxide are also used as fluxes.

Wet cast iron enamels use abrasive admixtures similar to those used for steel plate enamels. The plastic clay is about 5%~7% of the frit, and the opalizer is added with 4~8% tin oxide or zirconia, and electrolytes are added to adjust the properties of the enamel slurry.
