Cadmium sulfide selenide (Cadmium red) pigment is the only pigment in enamel pigments that can produce a bright red tone. It has strong tinting strength and rich colors. It has long played an important role in enamel decoration. However, cadmium sulfide selenide has poor thermal stability and is easily oxidized and decomposed at high temperature. It is a toxic pigment and cannot be used in enamel products that come into contact with food. How to obtain high temperature-resistant, non-toxic and environmentally friendly red pigment has always been a research topic for pigment technicians. Domestic researchers have also done After many beneficial attempts, the red pigment of cadmium sulfide selenide wrapped by zirconium silicate was successfully synthesized, and the use temperature of cadmium red was increased to above 1300 ℃.
The coating pigment is usually expressed as ZrSZrSiO4/Cd (S, Se), which is a brand-new decorative material, which was commercialized from the end of the 20th century to the beginning of this century. It has been widely used in the decoration of wall and floor tiles and sanitary porcelain. Just started the application.
The main properties of ZrSZrSiO4/Cd (S, Se) encapsulated pigments are as follows:
1. High chemical stability, effectively reducing the amount of cadmium dissolved in enamel products. The zircon inclusions wrapped around the CdS/Se mixed crystal can not only improve the high temperature stability of the pigment, but also prevent the CdS/Se pigment from being corroded by chemical substances, effectively reducing the amount of cadmium dissolved in enamel products;
2. Color rendering. Theoretically, since the Cd-S-Se system can form a complete series of mixed crystals (solid solution), there are only three types of pigments encapsulated in ZrSiO4/Cd(SxSe1-x): red, orange and yellow. Due to the limitation of the firing temperature of enamel products, the color development of encapsulated pigments in enamel products is weaker than that of ceramic products.
3. High temperature stability. The stability of the encapsulated pigment refers to the temperature at which it remains colored in the glaze for the longest possible firing period and the highest possible firing temperature. The application of ZrSiO4/Cd (SxSe1-x) in the firing process of enamel base glaze or transparent glaze is stable.
The manufacturing processes of ZrSiO4/Cd (SxSe1-x) coated pigments mainly include: solid powder sintering synthesis method, solution precipitation method, frit method, double wrapping method, etc.
In addition, the ball-milling time of the coated pigment and the glaze block should be minimized to prevent the zircon coating from being damaged. The basic principle is as long as the mixing is uniform. Therefore, the enamel base glaze or transparent glaze and pigment should reach the required fineness before mixing and ball milling.
