1. Ionic coloring

2. Colloidal caramel

Colloidal coloring is the coloring produced by the scattering of light on colored colloidal particles and the selective absorption of light due to the dispersion of colloidal particles. Metal colloid colorants usually used as enamel include gold, silver, copper, etc. They do not color the enamel block when melting, but only the colloid particles that grow up during firing make the porcelain layer color.

Colloid coloring is mainly divided into metal colloid coloring and compound colloid coloring. Metal colloid coloring can be introduced during melting or grinding, but compound colloid coloring is mainly introduced during grinding and is usually treated as a pigment.

If it is introduced during melting, the melting atmosphere must be strictly controlled. For this reason, sometimes an oxidizing agent or reducing agent should be added appropriately, so that the ideal coloring effect can be obtained during firing.

The coloring strength mainly depends on the color rendering ability of the colorant itself, the composition of the enamel, the amount of the colorant introduced, and the firing temperature and atmosphere.

3. Solid solution coloring

This kind of coloring is to introduce two or more than two kinds of elements or compounds in advance, according to a certain ratio, the pre-made pigment is introduced when the enamel slurry is ground, so that the pigment is distributed in the enamel slurry as finely dispersed particles. Cause the selective absorption and scattering of light, so that the enamel becomes a colored opaque body.

The coloring ability of the pigment depends on the difference in the refractive index of the pigment and the enamel. The larger the difference, the stronger the coloring ability. At the same time, the greater the degree of dispersion of the pigment particles, the better the coloring.

The coloring ability of pigments in strong opacified enamel is significantly weakened. The higher the opacity of the enamel, the worse the coloration. Therefore, generally speaking, the amount of coloring agent in titanium enamel is larger than that in antimony enamel. Therefore, the base enamel of decorative enamel is generally transparent or translucent.
