There are two methods used for enamelling: wet method (enamel slurry) and dry method (powder enamelling). The wet method is generally used for steel utensils. How to apply enamel to the utensils is as follows Several kinds: dipping method, spray coating method, electrostatic spraying, electrophoretic coating, etc. Here is an introduction to the most common dipping method.
The most common method of enamel enamelling is the dip enamel method, which is generally used to make small utensils. The utensils are immersed in a bucket of slurry, taken out and then shaken and rotated to remove excess slurry, and the enamel slurry can be all over the ware. Evenly distributed on the surface.
A certain consistency and adhesion are required to obtain the required thickness and uniform coating film during rotation. Flat utensils require lower consistency and adhesion, while complex shapes require higher consistency and adhesion.
The thickness of most primers is between 0.1~0.15mm (100~150um). As for the coverage of enamel frit , it is affected by the following factors: alkalinity, enamel composition, firing degree, and stability of the enamel slurry after grinding. The amount and nature of the grinding material, the clay and corrective agent, the fineness of the grinding, the temperature of the enamel slurry, etc. The temperature has a great influence on the coverage of the enamel slurry. Too cold will easily agglomerate and apply irregularly, and it will also cause defects such as burnout and copper head. If it is too hot to adjust, it will produce flow marks. The best temperature is 18 ~22°C.
Before the enamel slurry enters the tank, it must be sieved to remove coarse particles, and adjusted with water and correction fluid. If the inside and outside of the vessel are coated with the same enamel frit , the dipping method can be used. If the outside is different from the inside, the dipping method should be used first and then the pouring method. As for the quality, it depends on the experience of the workers. The pouring method and the dip enamel method have many advantages, no special equipment is needed, and the yield is high and there is less waste of enamel. There are also many disadvantages, such as: 1. It is difficult to apply a uniform enamel layer, especially a thin layer. 2. The quality of the enamel layer is affected by the properties of the enamel slurry, so special attention should be paid to the control of the enamel slurry. 3. It is more difficult to mechanize, and special machinery can only be specially designed separately.
